In this role, you will drive the technical vision and execution for critical systems that safeguard the integrity of our platform, enhance user trust, and ensure the security of Airbnb’s global community.The Difference You Will Make:This is a pivotal leadership opportunity to build and scale the Trust & Safety engineering team in India from the ground up. You’ll serve as a founding member of the India Trust organization, co-lead the definition of the team’s charter, and play a central role in shaping its long-term strategy, culture, and technical direction. As the team grows, you will help establish it as a center of excellence for Trust & Safety within Airbnb globally.You’ll partner closely with product, data science, security, and other cross-functional teams to deliver innovative solutions that proactively protect our users and uphold the integrity of Airbnb’s platform. This is a highly visible role, ideal for a strategic technical leader with a passion for operational excellence and people leadership.A Typical Day:- Technical Leadership: Define and execute the technical strategy for trust and safety initiatives, ensuring alignment with Airbnb’s long-term goals.
- Team Management: Hire, mentor, and lead a high-performing engineering team. Foster a culture of innovation, ownership, and continuous improvement.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, data scientists, and partner engineering teams to develop effective, scalable solutions.
- Project Oversight: Lead end-to-end project execution, ensuring high-quality delivery across the software development lifecycle.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Provide clear communication of project status, risks, and opportunities to senior leadership and partners.
- Operational Excellence: Champion best practices for reliability, scalability, and incident response. Maintain operational readiness for critical systems.
- Industry Awareness: Stay current on trends in Trust & Safety, and drive adoption of best practices and innovations within the team.
- Global Alignment: Work with global counterparts to ensure the India team’s initiatives are aligned with broader Trust & Safety goals.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 12+ years of industry experience, including 5–7+ years in engineering management.
- Proven track record of delivering large-scale, secure, and reliable systems.
- Strong experience in leading technical strategy and building scalable engineering, data, or machine learning systems.
- Expertise in leading AI/ML teams and delivering AI-powered solutions is a strong plus.
- Proficiency in at least one major language (e.g., Java, Python, Go, Ruby).
- Demonstrated ability to hire and retain top-tier engineering talent.
- Excellent communicator—capable of bridging technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience setting multi-year strategies and aligning diverse stakeholders.
- Background working in fast-paced, agile environments with cross-functional teams.
- Passion for trust, safety, and driving positive social impact.
