Description
Spotify Studios is seeking a Supervising Editor to oversee and grow our True Crime vertical, with a focus on developing and executing on our video strategy. This includes overseeing the flagship originals Conspiracy Theories and Serial Killers, as well as future series and special projects. This is both an editorial and managerial role for someone who lives and breathes true crime, conspiracy and mystery narratives. The Supervising Editor will be responsible for setting the editorial vision, refining existing show formats, and driving new creative concepts. This person will ensure journalistic integrity and accuracy while working with producers, editors, and hosts to shape compelling content from ideation through final delivery. In addition to show-level leadership, this role will oversee the broader true crime and mystery strategy across the vertical, helping to grow audience engagement, test new video formats, and scout talent. You’ll mentor and manage producers, collaborate with hosts, and help shape the direction of one of the most successful content categories at Spotify. What You'll Do
- Lead the editorial vision for Spotify’s true crime vertical, ensuring high-quality, distinctive content across multiple shows
- Directly manage producers
- Work collaboratively with hosts, producers, video editors, and engineers
- Set deadlines, clearly communicate those deadlines and keep the team on track and working toward its goals
- Train producers in basic reporting techniques such as interviewing skills, research methods, and investigative storytelling
- Provide actionable editorial and production feedback
- Work with freelancers as needed, helping guide and edit them on story pitching and production
- Oversee fact-checking, legal reviews and compliance with content guidelines
- Drive new creative formats
- Report to the Head of Productions & Content Strategy
- You have a deep passion for true crime and conspiracy narratives, and an obsession with the genre’s landscape — you know the major players, the emerging talent, and what our audience is craving
- A passion for podcasts and familiarity with the podcast industry
- 2+ years of managerial experience
- 2+ years of experience with audio production
- 1+ years of experience with video production
- A strong background in journalism and creative writing
- Ability to structure a compelling short- and long-form narrative
- Ability to work with and lead a collaborative production team and help guide and shape the editorial direction of the show
- Ability to manage a production schedule and prioritize a team’s responsibilities
- Strong ability to keep open lines of communication on a team
- A knack for delivering clear, conscientious feedback on both stories and performance
- Experience with audience engagement and performance tracking
- This role is based in Los Angeles, CA
- We offer you the flexibility to work where you work best! There will be some in person meetings, but still allows for flexibility to work from home. We ask that you come into the office 2-3 days per week.

The United States base range for this position is $120,105 - 171,578 plus equity. The benefits available for this position include health insurance, six month paid parental leave, 401(k) retirement plan, 23 paid days off, 13 paid flexible holidays, paid sick leave. This range encompasses multiple levels. Leveling is determined during the interview process. Placement in a level depends on relevant work history and interview performance.
